HC Deb 04 April 1917 vol 92 c1312W
Mr. JOWETT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War concerning Private W. Illingworth, No. 61,548, 3rd Labour Company, 11th Section, 3rd Platoon, Durham Light Infantry, 4th Corps, British Expeditionary Force, France, who is said by his father to have been blind of one eye from birth and to be only able to see indistinctly with the other eye, and who has been classified for military service in C 2 Class, whether it is in accordance with the intentions of the Army Council that a man in his condition has been sent on foreign service; and, if not, whether he will make inquiries with a view to Private Illingworth's return?

Mr. MACPHERSON

If this man has been classified as C 2 he has been rightfully sent overseas. There does not appear to be any reason why his infirmity should interfere with work in a labour company.
