§ Mr. LEWISThe number of public elementary school scholars presented for examination in French or German in the year ended 31st July, 1896, was 12,901; I am unable to give the figures for French and German separately. The Board have no information as to the number of scholars who are being taught any foreign language in public elementary schools at the present time.
