HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1915W
Mr. GWYNNE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether the price of iron ore purchased by his Department is fixed by the selling price of pig iron; and, if so, why he did not insist on the maximum price being fixed for pig iron at the same time the maximum price for iron ore was fixed?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Ministry of Munitions have not purchased any iron ore.

Mr. GWYNNE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether the lessees of iron ore mines have fixed 35s. per ton as the selling price for iron ore; and whether, seeing that the price of pig iron has now gone up to 127s. per ton, he will consider the desirability of fixing a maximum price for pig iron?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Ministry of Munitions have fixed the prices to be charged for various classes of iron ore in Cumberland according to the quality. The maximum price of pig iron in that district was fixed at the same time upon the basis of the arranged prices of ore.
