HC Deb 04 May 1914 vol 62 c50W
Mr. LOUGH

asked the Postmaster-General what is the revenue derived by the Post Office from Sunday late fees on letters in the Metropolitan district; and whether he will in future concede to Londoners the privilege now enjoyed by residents of all other cities in England, namely, of posting their letters on Sunday for the night mails, at certain post offices as now, without the payment of any late fee?

Captain NORTON

The revenue derived from late fees on letters posted on Sundays in the Metropolitan district is, approximately, £11 per week. A large increase in Sunday labour on the part of Post Office servants in London would necessarily result from the abolition of such fees, and on this ground an alteration in the present arrangements is not desirable.
