HC Deb 08 July 1914 vol 64 c1081W
Sir JOHN BETHELL

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that, under their new overtime regulations, Customs watchers in London are called upon to give an attendance up to twelve hours during any period of the twenty-four; that they do not receive any payment for night attendance between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless their aggregate for the week exceeds forty-eight hours; that the London watchers have been deprived of their disturbance allowances under which they received two hours' extra overtime pay for attendance before 6 a.m.; and whether, in view of the fact that officers giving the same attendance as the watchers receive half-rate for all attendance between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., irrespective of their weekly aggregate, and also are granted a day's compensation leave when employed on Sundays or public holidays, he will favourably consider the extension of these two latter conditions of overtime employment to the watchers?

Mr. MONTAGU

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave on the 6th instant to the hon. Member for Dulwich.
