HC Deb 03 July 1913 vol 54 c2206W
Mr. RUPERT GUINNESS

asked the Prime Minister whether he is in a position to state when legislation will be introduced to reform the present system of registration of deaths, and more particularly to render burial impossible without the production to the Registrar of Deaths of a medical certificate as to the cause of death, or a certificate based on the verdict of a coroner's jury?

Mr. BURNS

I cannot promise legislation on this subject, but an alteration which the Registrar-General is about to make, with my approval, in the Instructions to Registrars of Deaths will secure that all deaths not certified by a registered medical practitioner shall be reported to the coroner.
