HC Deb 10 January 1913 vol 46 c1548W
Sir J. D. REES

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he proposes to lay down an absolute rule that governors and other Colonial officials on their retirement shall in no case accept directorships of companies carrying on business in the Colonies in which they served?

Mr. HARCOURT

No, Sir; but retired Colonial officials will not be allowed to accept the directorship of companies operating in the Colonies in which they

have served unless they have obtained the written consent of the Governor. During the first three years after an officer's retirement permission will as a rule be refused except in very exceptional circumstances.
