HC Deb 09 April 1913 vol 51 cc1202-3W
Mr. TOUCHE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that facilities are being given for placing British journals on view in the British section of the forthcoming Ghent International Exhibition, but that the proprietors of the "Financial World" have been informed by the Exhibitions Branch, Board of Trade, that their journal cannot be included on the ground that these facilities are not to be extended to the financial Press; will he state the reason for the exclusion of financial publications; and, in view of the close relations between trade and finance and the desirability of increasing Continental financial interest in British commercial enterprises, will he endeavour to obtain reconsideration of the decision to exclude responsible financial journals seeking to extend their Continental business?

Mr. BUXTON

I presume that the hon. Member refers to an arrangement that has been made for the inclusion in the British Pavilion at the Ghent Exhibition of a small library of trade and technical journals. The arrangement does not include purely financial journals owing to the limited connection between the objects of such journals and the general purposes of the exhibition.
