HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 c66W
Sir J. D. REES

asked whether the appellate bench in the Midnapur case found the Advocate-General's objection to the jurisdiction of Mr. Justice Fletcher to try the case was good, and that the suit, which cost the taxpayers upwards of £10,000 and occupied the Court, owing, as the appellate bench found, to the admission of irrelevant matter, 192 working days, should have been dismissed in limine; and, if so, what steps the Secretary of State proposes to take to prevent a recurrence of such an incident?

Mr. H. BAKER

The Advocate-General did not raise, not did the appellate bench consider, any objection to the jurisdiction of Mr. Justice Fletcher to try the case.
