asked the Secretary to the Treasury how many Customs officers are on the average daily employed in examining the packages brought into this country by parcels post; what is the annual cost of this department of the Customs service; and how much was received during the last financial year by the Treasury in respect of Customs Duties paid on parcels post packages imported?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The average number of men employed is about thirty; the annual cost is something over £5,000, and the amount of Customs Duty collected in the last financial year something over £40,000.
