§ Mr. FELLasked the President of the Board of Trade what was the quantity and value of the cocoa imported into the United Kingdom from the islands of San Thomé and Principe during each of the past three years?
Mr. BUXTONCocoa from San Thomé and Principle reaches this country not only in the form of direct consignments from Portuguese West Africa, but as consignments from Portugal, to which country it is sent from the islands. There is no means of distinguishing how much of the imports from Portugal were of West African origin, but the following statement shows the total registered quantity and value of the imports of raw cocoa into the United Kingdom consigned either from Portugal or from Portuguese West Africa in each of the years specified:—
