HC Deb 04 March 1912 vol 35 cc166-7W
Mr. DUFFY

asked the Chief Secretary if he can state the number of police stations in the Athenry sub-district and the number of the free force and extra police force stationed in each barrack, and what is the cost of the same to the ratepayers of the county?

Mr. BIRRELL

There are six police stations in the sub-district of Athenry, the numbers of the free quota and extra force in the sub-district being respectively forty-eight and twenty-nine. The cost to the county of the extra force is at the rate of £34 9s. 3d. per man per annum.

Mr. DUFFY

asked the Chief Secretary whether he can state the number of agrarian or specially reported cases in the Athenry sub-district for the past twelve months; and whether, in view of the peacefulness of the district, he will consider the wisdom of reducing the number of police quartered in the district down to its normal level?

Mr. BIRRELL

The number of agrarian and non-agrarian, cases specially reported in the Athenry sub-district during the past twelve months was three and eight respectively. The responsible police authorities are not prepared to recommend any reduction of the police force in the district at present.
