HC Deb 18 June 1912 vol 39 cc1627-30W
Mr. CLANCY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what was the income for the financial year ending 31st March last of the housing fund established by the Housing of the Working Classes (Ireland) Act. 1908; whether he will state the names of the local authorities which applied for loans under that Act, with the amount applied for, the amount sanctioned, and the amount of the Grant-in-Aid payable under the Act mentioned in the same financial year to each authority; whether he will state the extent to which the Grant met the housing charge in each case for the year; what is the present state of the housing fund out of which the Grants are paid; and what is the total amount applied for by local authorities in Ireland under the Housing of the Working Classes (Ireland) Acts, 1890 to 1908, and the amount sanctioned, distinguishing the amounts applied for and sanctioned previous to the passing of the Act of 1908 from the amounts applied for and sanctioned since the passing of that Act?

Mr. BIRRELL

The income of the Irish Housing Fund for the year ended the 31st March last was £6,365 2s., and the corpus of the Fund now amounts to £178,313 6s. 1d. nominal value. The following tables give full information as regards the remaining portions of the questions, except the total amounts of loans applied for before and after the passing of the Act of 1908. Many of these applications have been modified or have proved abortive, and the determination of the exact figures in all original applications received during the last twenty-two years would involve an expenditure of time and labour altogether disproportionate to the utility of the result achieved.
