HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 c1190W
Mr. MORTON

asked whether crofter gillies employed for three months in a season are exempt from the operations of the National Insurance Act?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The answer to this question must depend upon the nature of the employment. Under paragraph (h) of Part II. of the First Schedule, persons employed casually for work of this character and not for the purpose of the employer's trade or business are excepted from compulsory insurance in respect of their employment. The conditions of employment of gillies vary considerably, and investigation is still proceeding. I hope to make a further announcement very shortly.
