HC Deb 10 June 1912 vol 39 cc656-7W
Mr. DORIS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether, for the purpose of relieving congestion in the district, the Congested Districts Board have taken any steps to acquire the grazing farm held by Mr. G. Acton, at Donamona, county Mayo; and, if so, with what result?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board are taking proceedings for the resumption of this holding under Section 83 of the Irish Land Act of 1903.

Mr. DORIS

asked whether Mr. Fitz-Gerald-Kenny, of Clogher, Lynch, county Mayo, has offered his congested estate, including grazing and untenanted lands, for sale through the Congested Districts Board; and has the Board taken any steps to acquire the Estate?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board inform me that Mr. J. Fitz-Gerald-Kenny's estate in the rural district of Castlebar will be inspected and a decision arrived at regarding purchase as soon as practicable. The property offered for sale includes 81 acres of untenanted land in the owner's hands.

Mr. DORIS

asked when, approximately, the Congested Districts Board will be prepared to make offers for the Brown and Owers, M'Dermott, and Miss Lynch estates, near Ballyglass, county Mayo, which the landlords have expressed their willingness to sell to the Board?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board have decided to make an offer for the purchase of the Owens and Brown estate referred to, and they hope to do so at an early date. The maps and documents necessary for a preliminary inspection of Miss Monica Lynch's estate were only lodged with the Board in February last, and owing to the number of estates which have been offered it may be some time before it can be valued. The Board have purchased the estate of A. J. M'Dermott.

Mr. DORIS

asked whether the Congested Districts Board have received an intimation that Mrs. Pike, of Achill, county Mayo, is willing to sell her congested estate through the Board; and, if so, when the Board intend taking steps to acquire the property?

Mr. BIRRELL

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. DORIS

asked whether the trustees of the Achill Mission estate, county Mayo, have yet informed the Congested Districts Board that they are willing to sell the estate through the Board, or what replies the trustees have given to the inquiries of the Board on the subject?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply is in the negative.
