HC Deb 24 July 1912 vol 41 c1187W
Mr. GILHOOLY

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the local sub-pension committee, Castletown Bere, county Cork, granted a pension to Julia Moriarty, of Reenabulya, Adrigole, and that the local pension officer refused to recommend this pension as the applicant could not obtain a certificate of birth; and, seeing that the applicant produced a certificate of her marriage, dated 25th April, 1860, if he will cause the pension to be granted to her?

Mr. BIRRELL

The facts generally are as stated in the question. A certificate of the claimant's marriage was furnished to the Local Government Board, but it did not contain any record of the claimant's age at the date of her marriage. The claimant was unable to furnish any other evidence of her age, and, accordingly, her claim for pension was disallowed by the Local Government Board on appeal.
