HC Deb 02 April 1912 vol 36 c1144W
Mr. GEORGE GREENWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the number of executions in Northern Nigeria during the years 1908–10 was so much greater than in any other Crown Colony?

Mr. HARCOURT

The number of executions in Northern Nigeria during the years referred to was not greater than in any other Crown Colony. In comparing such statistics it is essential that the population of the Colonies concerned should be borne in mind, as well as the characteristics of the various races of which the population is composed.
