§ Sir HENRY KIMBERasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that, in connection with alterations now being made to Hendon parish church, there is a possibility of settling the question of the exact site of the grave of Sir T. Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, whose body is interred there in a position at present unknown; and whether, in the event of the grave being discovered and its being necessary to remove the remains, he will, on behalf of the State, see that the transfer is made with proper ceremonial to a fitting place and will cause the site to be marked with a memorial commensurate with his fame and public services?
Mr. HARCOURTI have no funds at my disposal for such a purpose, but in the event of the grave being discovered, I shall be prepared to invite the Government of the Straits Settlements to consider the question of providing funds for a suitable memorial, either by a Government Grant or by means of a public subscription in the Colony.
