HC Deb 24 July 1911 vol 28 c1493W
Sir HENRY KIMBER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he was aware that the Wandsworth county court, originally built in. 1861 to provide for 1,500 plaints per annum, and which have now increased to, and exceed, 12,000 per annum, has been condemned by the medical officer of health as insanitary, and is insufficient for the due administration of justice, as was shown by a petition recently presented to the Lord Chancellor, signed by fifty-eight barristers and solicitors practising in the court, and by representations of the Wandsworth Borough Council, urging the reconstruction of the building; and whether any, and what, steps have been, or will be, taken in the matter?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The accommodation at Wandsworth county court is inadequate. Terms have been agreed upon for the acquisition of additional land for the extension of the building at considerable expense and no unnecessary delay will occur in effecting the improvement.
