HC Deb 21 February 1911 vol 21 c1869W
Mr. O'DOWD

asked the Chief Secretary whether he was aware that in the opinion of experts beet can be successfully and profitably grown in Ireland; and, if so, whether the Department of Agriculture will take steps to promote and encourage the cultivation of that crop?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department of Agriculture in Ireland are aware that beet can be grown in Ireland, but do not believe that under existing circumstances it can be grown profitably.
