HC Deb 15 December 1911 vol 32 c2817W
Mr. PIRIE

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether officers in the Special Reserve who qualify for Army interpreter-ships in any foreign language receive a grant, as is the case in similar circumstances with officers of the Regular Army; is the qualifying examination the same in both cases; and, if there is no grant in the former case, what reason can be given?

Colonel SEELY

Officers in the Special Reserve who qualify for Army interpreterships do not receive a grant. The qualifying examination is the same in both cases. The funds at present allotted are not sufficient to admit of any extension of the present scheme of grants.
