HC Deb 14 December 1911 vol 32 c2696W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the Postmaster at the Eastern Central office has introduced a now scheme for distributing Christmas boxes at that office, whereby 60 per cent. of the amount raised is to be distributed amongst 200 men, leaving the balance for about 700 men; and whether, in view of the dissatisfaction caused amongst the men concerned, he will cause inquiries to be made so as to enable his Department to prepare a scheme for a fairer and more just distribution of the money collected from the public?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The question of distribution of Christmas boxes is primarily one for the postmen to settle among themselves. If they are unable to come to an agreement they are at liberty under the standing regulations to refer the matter to the district postmaster, whose decision must be accepted as final. I am not prepared to interfere as regards the distribution.
