EARL of KERRYasked the President of the Local Government Board whether any provision is at present made under the Poor Law for stammering children; and, if not, whether the Government has any such provision in contemplation?
§ Mr. BURNSThe question of the treatment of stammering children is at present receiving the consideration of the Board of Education, and I understand that some local education authorities make special arrangements for dealing with this defect. A large proportion of the children relieved 1561W under the Poor Law attend the public elementary schools, and the Poor Law schools are inspected by the Board of Education. I am not aware of any special experiment in dealing with stammering being instituted in any Poor Law school.
