Mr. WEIR

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether, having regard to the fact that the Road Board have arranged to grant £175,000 for the purpose of advances to Scotland, he will state what sum it is proposed to allocate to the respective counties?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The Road Board have now under consideration numerous applications from local authorities in Scotland. Any grants which may be made towards the cost of works of road improvement in the various counties will be announced in the public Press when the Board have settled the grants.

Captain MURRAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can state the counties in Scotland which, on the recommendation of the Road Board, will receive grants from the Development Fund towards the improvement of the roads within their boundaries, and the amount of the grant which it is proposed in each case to make; and whether, by reference to towns or otherwise, he can specify the roads in each county which will be included in the improvement scheme?

I understand that these grants are still under consideration.
