Sir HENRY DALZIELasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that members of an organisation calling itself the Red Cross Society are enlisting support in Scotland on representations that the War Office anticipate the invasion of this country by Germany; and whether the society in question has any connection whatever with the War Office or is in any way authorised to use its name in connection with its propaganda?
§ Mr. HALDANEThe only Red Cross Society officially recognised by the Army Council is the British Red Cross Society. This is empowered by schemes issued by the Army Council to raise voluntary aid detachments to succour the sick and wounded in the event of war. A pamphlet is issued by the society dealing with medical organisation in case of invasion, but, of course, no foreign nations is specified in it. I am not aware that any branch of the society is enlisting support by special reference to any one foreign Power, and I would strongly deprecate any such action.
