§ Mr. GLADSTONEThe total number of persons employed in and about the mines of the United Kingdom during 1908 was 1,017,740; at quarries under the Quarries Act, 85,475. The figures are given in Part I. of the Annual General Report on Mines and Quarries, which has already been published.
