HC Deb 02 March 1909 vol 1 cc1396-7W
Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make inquiries in the United States with a view to ascertaining whether the recent demoralisation of the New York stock market has been caused by the financial operations of those interested in preventing a drastic reduction in the present United States tariffs on iron and other commodities?

Sir E. GREY

I am not at all familiar with financial operations on the New York stock market, but I should be inclined to doubt whether official information is likely to be forthcoming which would enable me to get any report upon the subject of the question for presentation to Parliament.
