§ Mr. O'DOWDasked the Secretary to the Treasury whethe the is aware that the following named persons, residents of the Aclare (county Sligo) sub-committee, old age pensions, district, namely, Michael Cafferty, Martin O'Grady, Bridget Gilli gan, Winnie Grady, John Casey and Thomas Haran have been refused pensions, although their claims were on investigation by the pension officer, approved of by him, and sanctioned by the local sub-committee; whether it was elicited by local investigation that these claimants are over 75 years of age; and, if so, whether, under the circumstances, he will order that the pension officer in conjunction with the subcommittee be empowered to inspect all such people individually in future, their joint report to be accepted by all in the absence of documentary evidence to the contrary?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEI cannot adopt the suggestion made in the last paragraph of the question, but my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary is causing inquiry to be made into the circumstances of the special cases mentioned.
