HL Deb 20 July 1994 vol 557 cc239-40

3.20 p.m.

Viscount Ullswater

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lord Wakeham, I beg to move the first Motion standing in his name on the Order Paper.

The House will recall that earlier this year my noble friend appointed a working group, under the chairmanship of my noble friend Lord Rippon of Hexham, to consider the practices and procedures of the House in so far as they affect the sittings of the House.

The group has submitted its report to my noble friend and on his behalf I should like to take this opportunity publicly to thank all the members of the group for the work which they have carried out. With the approval of the Procedure Committee, my noble friend has proposed that the report should be printed, and thus made available to all Members of the House, and that thereafter a debate on the report be arranged for after the Summer Recess. In the light of that debate, the Procedure Committee might be invited to consider ways in which the report's recommendations might be implemented.

Moved, That the Report to the Leader of the House from the Group on Sittings of the House be printed.— (Viscount Ullswater.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
