§ Lord Judd asked Her Majesty's Government:
§ What is their policy towards the political situation in Angola.
§ Baroness TrumpingtonMy Lords, we remain committed to the implementation of the peace agreement embodied in the Bicesse Accords and have been working closely with our partners in the EC and the UN Security Council to that end. We have also been active in support of efforts by the UN to consolidate the present ceasefire in Angola.
§ Lord JuddMy Lords, will the noble Baroness agree that in view of the Government's deep commitment to advancing the cause of democracy in Africa and elsewhere, this setback is grave? Can she assure us that there will be no prevarication on the part of the Government in making it absolutely clear to all the parties that they must accept the outcome of a democratic election as held?
