Lord Wilberforce

My Lords, I wonder whether I might ask a question of the noble Lord the Chairman of Committees. I notice that among the 28 members of the proposed committee there is no representative of the Lords of Appeal. I believe that there has normally been such a representative. I myself served on the committee for many years. The Lords of Appeal are importantly interested in the matters concerning the Offices Committee, in accommodation and so on. I would suggest that it is desirable that they should have a representative, quite apart of course from the noble and learned Lord on the Woolsack. In view of that I wonder whether the noble Lord would either himself consider or ask the Committee of Selection to consider, when numbers so admit—the committee may be full at the moment—adding a Lord of Appeal to the committee.

The Chairman of Committees

My Lords, I am sure that the noble and learned Lord has made a very valid point. He was indeed correct in saying that the noble and learned Lord, Lord Goff, I believe it was, was on the committee and reached the rotation rule. The point that he has made will be considered by me and if necessary I shall come back to the House with a suggestion to make. I beg to move.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
