HL Deb 22 July 1991 vol 531 c540

80 Clause 39, page 27, line 40, after 'that', insert '(a)'.

81 Page 27, line 42, at end insert '; and (b) arrears of child support maintenance are recovered.'.

Lord Henley

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 80 and 81.

These amendments are concerned with deductions from benefit in respect of child support maintenance. They allow a deduction to be made both in respect of an on-going liability and in respect of outstanding arrears. Deductions in respect of both an on-going liability and arrears are already made in respect of, for example, fuel and water charges. There is an existing maximum level of deduction in respect of arrears. We intend that both deductions will count towards that maximum. I commend the amendments to the House.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 80 and 81.—(Lord Henley.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
