HL Deb 24 October 1990 vol 522 c1416

95 Clause 42, page 35, line 4, at end insert:

The Lord Chancellor

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 95. I shall speak also to Amendments Nos. 198 to 201.

The amendments, except for Amendment No. 201, deal with remuneration and other expenses of members of the Authorised Conveyancing Practitioners Board and the Conveyancing Ombudsman and his staff.

Amendment No. 201 extends the grounds on which the Conveyancing Ombudsman can make compensation orders to include inconvenience and distress as well as loss. This brings the Conveyancing Ombudsman's powers into line with those of the Legal Services Ombudsman and the Law Society's powers covering inadequate professional services.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 95.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
