HL Deb 01 May 1990 vol 518 cc900-1

3.1 p.m.

Baroness Sharpies asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why, when the preliminary trials to control the Blandford Fly were successful, permission was not given for a full-scale treatment on the River Stour in April.

The Minister of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Trefgarne)

My Lords approval for full-scale treatment of the River Stour was issued on 12th March.

Baroness Sharpies

My Lords, I thank my noble friend for that unexpected reply: my information is somewhat different. Can my noble friend say how many sites on the River Stour will be attacked with BTI and how much the cost is estimated to be?

Lord Trefgarne

My Lords, approval has been given for treating eight sites on the River Stour at an estimated cost, I understand, of £70,000.
