HL Deb 04 December 1989 vol 513 c730

Lord Williams of Elvel asked Her Majesty's Government:

Who were their financial advisers on the electricity privatisation programme, and what accounting principles were used to establish the costs of nuclear power for the purpose of a prospectus.

Viscount Ullswater

The Government's financial advisers on the electricity privatisation programme are Kleinwort Benson; Touche Ross advise on general accounting matters. Prospectuses for the flotation of the electricity supply industry will be produced nearer the flotation dates. Nuclear stations have been withdrawn from the privatisation programme and so will no longer appear as assets being sold. The accounting principles followed by the CEGB are matters for the board.
