HL Deb 24 May 1988 vol 497 cc777-8

3.7 p.m.

Viscount Davidson

My Lords, it may be for the convenience of the House if I announce that the Committee stage of the Local Government Finance Bill will be adjourned at approximately 7.30 p.m. for approximately one hour and that during this adjournment the Second Reading of the Scotch Whisky Bill will be taken.

Lord Hatch of Lusby

My Lords, while we are on the question of business, in the absence of the Government Chief Whip may I ask a business question of the noble Lord the Leader of the House? Knowing how solicitous he is for the attendants who serve us so excellently in this House, perhaps I may ask him to arrange that the next time this House is filled with unknown Peers—

Noble Lords

Order!

Lord Hatch of Lusby

—somebody from the Whip's Office or from his own office is on hand to help the attendants to identify people whom they have never seen before, provided that either the Whip's Office or his own office knows them.

The Lord Privy Seal (Lord Belstead)

My Lords, of course I understand the question asked by the noble Lord, Lord Hatch. Perhaps I may assure him that his face is familiar and always welcome.
