HL Deb 30 October 1986 vol 481 cc858-9

95 Clause 47, Page 50, line 29, leave out "but not" and insert "(including provision for allowances not to be paid in respect of certain categories) but shall not make different provision".

Baroness Hooper

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 95. This amendment makes it absolutely clear that a local education authority scheme for allowances to governors need not provide for travel and subsistence allowances to be paid to all categories of institution. The purpose of subsection (2) is to allow local education authorities to provide for travel and subsistence allowances for the governors of, say, an establishment of further education, where the governors may have to travel quite considerable distances, but not necessarily for the governors of schools. The local education authority may not, however, make different provisions for different types of governors on the same governing body.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said amendment.—(Baroness Hooper.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
