HL Deb 20 May 1985 vol 464 cc75-6

7 Clause 11, page 8, line 9, leave out ("a local, or police,") and instert ("an").

8 Clause 11, page 8 line 20, after ("section") insert (" "authority" means any police authority or other authority or body mentioned in section 17(6)(c) or (d) of this Act; and ").

9 Clause 12, page 8, line 24, leave out ("local or police").

10 Clause 12, page 8, line 25, leave out ("such").

12 Clause 12, page 8, line 29, leave out ("local or police").

13 Clause 12, page 9, line 1, leave out ("local or police").

14 Clause 12, page 8, line 11, after ("section") insert (" "authority" means any police authority or other authority or body mentioned in section 17(6)(c) or (d) of this Act; and").

As your Lordships will appreciate, under the terms of Clause 3(3) of the Bill, the new service will take over the conduct of criminal proceedings instituted by all police forces specified in regulations to be made by the Secretary of State. Such police forces are intended to include not only those established under the Police Act 1964 but also other bodies of constabularies such as the British Transport Police. This amendment seeks to achieve that so, again, it is essentially technical. I beg to move.

The Deputy Speaker

My Lords, the Question is that this House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 3 and 4 to 6 en bloc, and Amendments Nos. 12 to 14 en bloc

Lord Glenarthur

My Lords, I think perhaps that it might be better if we were to take them in order. What I had intended to do in moving those amendments was to speak to Amendments Nos. 3, 7, 8 and 9. I think it might be better to take them in order, and following on Amendment No. 9 would come Amendments Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 14.

The Deputy Speaker

I apologise, my Lords. The Question is that this House do agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 3 and 4 to 6.

Lord Elwyn-Jones

My Lords, we shall get into bad trouble if we try to make the proceedings even shorter than they are going to be. Let us take it in stages; otherwise we shall get into a terrible mess.

Lord Mishcon

My Lords, let each amendment be called.

The Deputy Speaker

My Lords, the Question is that this House do agree with the Commons with their Amendment No. 3.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
