HL Deb 16 March 1983 vol 440 c721

2.44 p.m.

Lord Inglewood

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government which other countries in the EEC which have a system of regular testing of private cars on the lines of our MOT tests have adopted a system with biennial inspection.

Lord Lucas of Chilworth

My Lords, I understand that only the Federal Republic of Germany have a system of biennial testing.

Lord Inglewood

; My Lords, do we know what other countries have any system which is at all comparable?

Lord Lucas of Chilworth

My Lords, the testing in other countries is similar in that Luxembourg tests annually, after three years, Belgium annually after four years and the Netherlands after five years. In France, Denmark, Greece and Ireland, no testing takes place.
