HL Deb 27 October 1981 vol 424 cc904-5

3.6 p.m.

The Chairman of Committees (Lord Aberdare)

My Lords, I beg to move the first Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. This makes various proposals for the amendment of Private Business Standing Orders, and the second Motion in my name makes amendments to Public Business Standing Orders. All these amendments arise from the Third Report of the Procedure Committee of the House, to which your Lordships have already agreed, and therefore they are to that extent procedural amendments. I beg to move the first Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper.

Moved, That the Standing Orders relating to Private Business be amended as follows:

Standing Order 95

After paragraph (3) insert the following new paragraph:

"(4) In the absence of any chairman appointed in pursuance of paragraph (3) of this Standing Order a committee may appoint its own chairman."

Standing Order216

Paragraph 3, line 3, after "above" insert "or if every Petition, or the only Petition, so received is withdrawn,".

Paragraph 4, line 5, leave out "a Lord of Appeal as Chairman".

Paragraph 7(a), leave out from the beginning of line 3 to "or" in line 5.

Standing Order216A

Paragraph 3, line 2, after "days" insert "or if every petition, or the only petition, so received is withdrawn,".

Paragraph 7(i), line 2, leave out from "Order" to "or" in line 5.—(Lord Aberdare.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
