HL Deb 19 October 1981 vol 424 cc626-7

124 After Clause 56, insert the following new clause:

"Appointment of wardens for public rights of way.

A local authority may appoint such number of persons as appear to the authority to be necessary or expedient to act as wardens as respects a footpath, bridleway or byway open to all traffic which is both in the countryside and in the area of the authority, and the purpose for which the wardens may be so appointed is to advise and assist the public in connection with the use of the path or way".

The Earl of Avon

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their amendment No. 124. With the leave of the House, I should like to speak to No. 127. The existing Clause 58, which this new clause replaces, enables wardens to act on footpaths and bridleways. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said amendment.—(The Earl of Avon.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
