§ Viscount Long rose to move, That the draft order laid before the House on 28th January be approved.
§ The noble Viscount said: My Lords, this order consolidates the law relating to legal aid, advice and assistance. The Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills considered the order on 4th February and reported that in their opinion it is pure consolidation, and that there is no point to which the attention of Parliament should be drawn. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That the draft order laid before the House on 28th January be approved.—(Viscount Long.)
§ Lord Elwyn-JonesMy Lords, this would seem to be an extremely helpful order. Can the noble Viscount say whether there is yet a Great Britain equivalent to it? Perhaps I should be addressing this query to the noble and learned Lord the Lord Chancellor. If the information is not immediately available, perhaps I may be communicated with.
Viscount LongMy Lords, I shall be most happy to do so after I have communicated with my noble and learned friend the Lord Chancellor.
§ The Lord ChancellorMy Lords, I will take note of what the noble and learned Lord has said and give him a reply.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
