HL Deb 06 August 1980 vol 412 cc1491-2
Lord SOAMES

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. Perhaps I should explain that the Motion which was before the House on 22nd July reflected the Government's original proposal that secretarial allowances for office holders in this House should be limited to £1,100 as opposed to the £1,175 recommended by the noble Lord, Lord Boyle, and the TSRB Report. In the light of the vote in another place to increase the secretarial allowances of Members of Parliament to the full TSRB recommended rate the Government think it right that the allowances for office-holders in this House should be increased similarly to the rate recommended by Lord Boyle.

Moved, That this House approves the proposal to increase to £1,175 a year the limit on the expenses which a Lord who receives a salary under the Ministerial and and other Salaries Act 1975 and the Chairman and Principal Deputy Chairman of Committees may recover under the Resolution of 22nd July 1980.—(Lord Soames.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
