HL Deb 24 May 1978 vol 392 cc981-2

3.34 p.m.

Lord BIRKETT

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do now resolve itself into Committee on this Bill.

Moved, that the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Lord Birkett.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[The Lord ABERDARE in the Chair.]

Clause 1 [Amendment of section 6 of Films Act 1960.]:

Lord WALLACE of COSLANY moved the Amendment: Page 1, line 11, leave out ("for Trade").

The noble Lord said: I beg to move the Amendment standing in my name. This is a purely drafting Amendment, which I hope will cause your Lordships no trouble at all. As you will see from the copy of the Bill you have in your possession, application is required to be made to the Secretary of State for Trade. Although it is the Secretary of State for Trade who administers the films legislation, your Lordships will not need me to tell you that it is not customary to refer to the Secretaries of State including their departmental title. This deletion which will make the reference just to the "Secretary of State" will bring the Bill in line with all other legislation. I beg to move.

Lord BIRKETT

I should only like to say that I stand totally in awe of Parliamentary draftsmanship and have no objection whatsoever to offer to this. I recommend the Amendment to your Lordships.

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Clause 1, as amended, agreed to.

Remaining clause agreed to.

House resumed: Bill reported with an Amendment.
