Interpretation

14. In this Part of this Schedule " the transitional period " means the period commencing with the day appointed for the coming into operation of sections (Limited registration of practitioners having overseas qualifications), (Limited registration: erasure), (Register of medical practitioners with limited registration), (Full registration for persons with limited registration), (Full registration of visiting overseas doctors), (The Review Board for Overseas Qualified Practitioners) and (Functions of the Review Board) of this Act and ending immediately before the day appointed for the coming into operation of sections (Full registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications), (Registration of further qualifications), (Experience required for frill registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications) and (Provisional registration of practioners having recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act.

Medical Act 1956

15. In section 54(1) of the Medical Act 1956 (in this Part of this Schedule referred to as " the Act of 1956 ") the definition of " fully registered person " as substituted by this Act shall have effect during the transitional period as if—

  1. (a) for the reference to section (Full registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act there were substituted a reference to section 18 of the Act of 1956; and
  2. (b) the words " or section (Provisional registration of practitioners having recognised overseas qualifications) (5) of the Medical Act 1978 " and " or under the said section (Provisional registration of practitioners having recognised overeas qualifications)" in paragraph (a) of the definition were omitted.

Medical Act 1969

16. In section 3 of the Medical Act 1969 (in this Part of this Schedule referred to as " the Act of 1969 "), subsection (2) as substituted by this Act shall have effect during the transitional period as if—

  1. (a) for references to persons entitled or directed to be registered under section (Full registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act there were substituted references to persons entitled or directed to be registered under section 18 of the Act of 1956; and
  2. (b) the reference to persons directed to be registered under section (Provisional registration of practitioners having recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act were omitted.

17. Section 7 of the Act of 1969 shall have effect during the transistional period as if—

  1. (a) in subsection (1), as amended by this Act, the reference to Part II of the Act of 1956 included a reference to Part III of that Act; and
  2. (b) subsection (3), as so amended, included a reference to an application for registration of persons or qualifications under Part III of the Act of 1956.

18. Section 8(1) of the Act of 1969 shall have effect during the transistional period as if in paragraph (a), as substituted by this Act, the reference to Part II of the Act of 1956 included a reference to Part III of that Act.

This Act

19. Sections (Limited registration of practitioners having recognised overseas qualifications) (13) and (Full registration for persons with limited registration) of this Act shall have effect during the transitional period as if for the' references to section (Full registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act there were substituted references to section 18 of the Act of 1956.

20. Section (Full registration of visiting overseas doctors) (1) of this Act shall have effect during the transitional period as if paragraph (a) were omitted.

21. Section (Functions of the Review Board) of this Act shall have effect during the transitional period as if—

  1. (a) in subsection (2), paragraphs (a) and (b) were omitted and in paragraph (c) for the reference to section (Full registration by virtue of recognsied overseas qualifications) of this Act there were substituted a reference to section 18 of the Act of 1956; and
  2. (b) in subsection (3), paragraphs (a) and (b) and, in paragraph (c), the references to paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (2) were omitted.

22. Paragraph 3 above shall have effect during the transitional period as if for the reference to section (Full registration by virtue of recognised overseas qualifications) of this Act there were substituted reference to section 18 of the Act of 1956."
