HL Deb 05 May 1978 vol 391 cc585-6

9 Clause 5, page 6, line 36, leave out "guidance" and insert "advice".

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 9. Again, I can take this briefly. It is advice to be given by the General Medical Council. Noble Lords will remember that in Committee questions were asked about whether the General Medical Council could not give advice to doctors on certain matters of professional conduct and medical ethics; that there had been a tendency in the past not to do so. Amendment No. 9 is a new clause empowering the General Medical Council to give advice on matters of professional conduct and medical ethics. I do not think there is any need for me to say anything more. I beg to move.

Moved, that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Wells-Pestell).

On Question, Motion agreed to.
