Schedule 5, page 108, line 16, at end insert—

'For section 3 substitute—

"Justices of the peace.

3. Justices of the peace shall be appointed in accordance with section 103 of the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978"

In section 6(1) for the words from "member of" to the end substitute the words "member of the Northern Ireland Court Service, notary public or commissioner for oaths".

In section 7 for the words from the beginning to "shall" substitute the words "A person appointed as a justice of the peace shall, except where he has already done so in connection with a former appointment,".'

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 58. With this Amendment I will speak also to Amendment No. 85. Together, they make some textual changes to the Magistrates' Court (Northern Ireland) Act 1964. The most important of these relate to the provisions of that Act concerning justices of the peace.
