HL Deb 22 November 1976 vol 377 cc1718-9

58 Page 13, line 41, at end insert "'district' shall have the meaning set out in section 9(7) of the National Health Service Re-organisation Act 1973".

The Commons disagreed to this Amendment for the following Reason:

59 Because it is unnecessary.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth not insist on their Amendment No. 58, to which the Commons have disagreed for the Reason numbered 59, which reads: Because it is unnecessary. My understanding of the situation is that the Amendment is consequential on Amendment No. 15, which was carried in the Lords Committee.

Moved, That this House doth not insist on the said Amendment, to which the Commons have disagreed for the Reason numbered 59.—(Lord Wells-Pestell.)

Viscount LONG

My Lords, we come back to the argument about the word "district". But, as the noble Lord said, this Amendment is consequential, so we feel we shall have to leave it at that. No doubt there will be a problem later about the words "district" and "area", and distance to be travelled. However, we will leave it at that.
