HL Deb 11 May 1976 vol 370 cc940-1

Baroness FISHER of REDNAL asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is contrary to the Sex Discrimination Act for commercial or industrial companies not to employ married couples within the same company.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

It is for an industrial tribunal to rule in individual cases whether the action taken by a company in conformity with a policy of not employing married couples constitutes unlawful discrimination either on grounds of sex or of marital status.
