(2B) In this Act "appointed day", in relation to any provision of it, means the day appointed under subsection (2A) above for that provision to come into force.

Baroness STEDMAN

My Lords, Amendment No. 11 to subsection (2) of Clause 4 of the Bill completes the process of amending the commencement provisions of the Bill in order to take account of the fact that it has not been possible to enact the Bill before 1st January 1976 when Article 5 of the relevant EEC Regulation came into force in relation to driving within the United Kingdom. The effect of the Amendment is that the provision of Clause 1 and the Schedules which relate to the heavy goods vehicle driver licensing threshold and of Clause 2 will come into force on a day to be appointed by order, The rest of the Bill—the provisions relating to minimum driving ages and Clause 3—will come into effect on enactment of the Bill.

I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Baroness Stedman.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
